Otis India Honours Students for AI Urban Mobility Solutions

Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation (NYSE: OTIS), has announced the Asia-Pacific results of its annual Made to Move Communities challenge. Two student teams from India鈥擩adavpur Vidyapith (Kolkata) and DAV Nandaraj Public School (Ranchi)鈥攔eceived honourable mentions for their inventive AI-based urban mobility solutions.
The competition, launched globally in 2020, invites students to use STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) to solve real-world transport challenges. This year鈥檚 theme focused on developing urban mobility solutions using Artificial Intelligence. Guided by Otis volunteers, students across the Asia-Pacific region designed innovative ideas to enhance inclusive mobility in their communities.
The Jadavpur Vidyapith team created 鈥渇ogSIGHT鈥�, an AI-powered sensor system designed to detect extreme fog and enhance driver visibility, aiming to prevent accidents in hazardous weather. The project earned the school a USD 7,500 grant to support further STEM education.
DAV Nandaraj Public School鈥檚 team developed 鈥淢adad鈥�, a sensor-based AI system that recognises ambulances on the road and regulates traffic signals to ensure faster emergency response. Their entry also earned formal recognition and funding for STEM learning initiatives.
Sebi Joseph, President of Otis India, commended the students, stating, 鈥淭heir intelligent use of AI and STEM not only addresses vital local challenges but also inspires the broader goal of building smarter, more accessible cities.鈥�
Globally, over 250 students from dozens of schools took part in this year鈥檚 edition. Since its launch, the Made to Move Communities programme has engaged more than 1,000 students and awarded nearly USD 1 million in STEM education grants.
