Raipur becomes second city to use automated green corridor in India

Following Ahmedabad, Raipur became India's second city to get an Automated Green Corridor Emergency Service. Starting on 23 March, this service aims to facilitate the unhindered movement of ambulances through traffic junctions during emergencies. It is important to note that only ambulances equipped with GPS can use this service.

Abhinash Mishra, the Commissioner of Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Managing Director of Raipur Smart City Limited (RSCL) announced the launch of this initiative. He highlighted that the automated green corridor service ensures prompt medical assistance to patients by swiftly transporting them to hospitals. When a GPS-enabled ambulance approaches a traffic signal, if it's red, the signal will turn green within a 250-metre radius as the ambulance requests emergency corridor assistance from the Control and Command Centre.

In the initial phase, 108 GPS-enabled ambulances have been integrated into the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ITCC) of Smart City Limited, which the state traffic department will manage. Mishra explained that as part of the pilot project, the 108 ambulances operating within the city have been incorporated into the system. Additionally, plans are underway to include ambulances from other districts as well as those affiliated with private and government hospitals.

Furthermore, other GPS-enabled ambulances can also request access to the green corridor by activating their GPS and sending a request to the Command and Control Centre. Upon entering the city, the GPS of the ambulance will display an option to connect to the Control Centre.

Raipur Smart City Limited, Raipur Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police have initiated a project guided by Collector Dr. Gaurav Kumar Singh. Ashish Mishra, the Public Relations Officer of Raipur Smart City Limited, recalled instances where manual green corridors were set up for emergencies. This highlights the significance of the Automated Green Corridor Emergency Service in streamlining emergency response efforts. ?
