Rs 9.70 bn Approved to Convert 5,000 MSRTC Buses to LNG Fuel

The Maharashtra government granted approval on Monday for the conversion and maintenance of 5,000 diesel-powered MSRTC buses to Liquified Natural Gas as part of the state-run undertaking's green transport initiative. According to the government resolution (GR), a total of Rs 9.70 billion will be allocated for this project.

The GR also stated that out of the Rs 9.70 billion, Rs 400 million has been sanctioned for the financial year 2024-25, Rs 2 billion for 2025-26, Rs 3.70 billion for 2026-27, and Rs 3.60 billion for 2027-28. Additionally, a resolution by the MSRTC board of directors from November 22 of the previous year estimated the conversion and maintenance cost, including the provision of fuel sources, at Rs 1.94 million per bus.
