The UP govt will conduct a detailed survey of industrial units across its seven industrial development authorities to create a database of operational and non-operational units while also identifying vacant land banks.
The survey will extend to over 42,000 industrial units across the state, including Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authorities (YEIDA) which collectively have over 15,000 industrial units in Gautam Buddh Nagar.
Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and Satharia Industrial Development Authority (SIDA) are the remaining ones.
The entire exercise is expected to be completed within four months from the start date. Invest UP, the nodal agency for the project, will oversee the survey process and ensure its timely execution. To implement the project, the govt has issued a request for proposals, inviting experienced survey agencies to participate.
A mobile application has been developed to streamline data collection. Officials said the total number of industrial units is likely to be higher once the surveying agencies coordinate with the respective authorities. The govt's initiative is part of its strategy to make Uttar Pradesh a $1 trillion economy and contribute to India's goal of achieving a $5 trillion economy.
The findings will help the govt optimise land use and support decision-making for industrial development. The survey will collect data from industrial plots to determine their size, type of land use, industry category,
operational status and other details, such as the number of employees and the products manufactured. The primary goal is to identify functional units, non-operational units and defunct or vacant plots.
Surveying agencies will use the mobile application to record real-time information during field visits, which will later be verified and analysed.
Officials said manufacturing will play a critical role in this transformation and "mapping the operational status of industrial units will provide a clear picture of the sector's contribution to the state's economy". Agencies will be selected based on their expertise, and each will handle specific packages of industrial areas.
A single agency will not be allotted more than two packages. This comprehensive survey, officials said, will help maximise the utilisation of available industrial land while creating a reliable database of manufacturing units, officials said.
