Vedanta Aluminium, India鈥檚 largest aluminium producer, marked World Earth Day 2025 by highlighting its milestone achievements across biodiversity conservation, waste-to-wealth initiatives, and renewable energy adoption. These efforts reflect the company鈥檚 integrated approach to advancing sustainability in core operations while empowering rural communities in the vicinity of its locations. A key milestone achieved recently was the dispatch of the 650th fly ash rake from Vedanta鈥檚 mega aluminium plant in Jharsuguda. Since March 2022, the company has supplied over 1.5 million tonnes of fly ash to major cement manufacturers and 3 million tonnes for use in National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects. An additional 0.3 million tonnes have been supplied for fly ash brick manufacturing by MSME enterprises. In FY25 alone, 223 rakes were dispatched, helping the company achieve 113% fly ash utilisation across its operations. The consignments are GPS-enabled to enable easier tracking and delivery, with the health of ash dykes (where fly ash is initially stored) also monitored via InSAR and drones. In addition, Vedanta Aluminium has also joined hands with PwC for comprehensive biodiversity and carbon reduction projects, planted over 100,000 saplings under its Matrivan initiative in Jharsuguda as part of the Government of India鈥檚 Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, and has signed an MoU with GAIL for the supply of natural gas to support Vedanta鈥檚 upcoming 430 kilo tonnes per annum (KTPA) cast house. In observance of Earth Day, the various units of Vedanta Aluminium in Odisha and Chhattisgarh organised a series of awareness and engagement events: 鈥� In Lanjigarh, Odisha, 145 participants from Goipeta village joined the Earth Day sessions, which included drawing contests and environmental awareness drives. Over 15,000 saplings were planted, including 500 of the threatened Chloroxylon swietenia, while 31 water harvesting structures created 250,000 m鲁 of potential, benefitting 250 farmers. 鈥� At Jharsuguda, Odisha, Earth Day activities were organized in collaboration with the OPMP Government Girls鈥� School, engaging 170 students and teachers in a plantation drive, in addition to poster-making and debate competitions. 鈥� In Korba, Chhattisgarh, BALCO - a part of Vedanta Aluminium - reinforced the importance of internal sustainability mechanisms through energy audits and behavioural change initiatives focused on reducing specific power consumption, aligning with the Earth Day theme 鈥淥ur Power, Our Planet鈥�.
