Mumbai airport modernisation cost escalates to Rs 12,300 cr

Hyderabad-based GVK Power and Infrastructure, which runs the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, has estimated the cost of modernising the airport at about Rs 12,300 crore, contrary to the earlier estimation of Rs 9,800 crore. When the project was awarded to GVK in 2006, the cost of modernising the congested airport was pegged at around Rs 5,826 crore. However, time and cost overruns have resulted in this steep escalation.
