Bihar Cabinet Approves Six New Airports Under UDAN Scheme

The Bihar state cabinet has given the green light to an agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop six small airports across the state under the central government's UDAN regional connectivity scheme. A total of Rs鈥1.5鈥痓illion has been sanctioned, with Rs鈥250鈥痬illion allocated for each airport.

The approved airports are located in six districts: Madhubani, Birpur (Supaul), Munger, Valmiki Nagar (Bettiah), Muzaffarpur, and Saharsa. These facilities aim to enhance air connectivity for residents and improve access to commercial and educational centres across the region.

Cabinet approval enables the state鈥檚 Directorate of Aviation to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the AAI, paving the way for the commencement of construction and infrastructure work at these sites. The initiative also aligns with election-year efforts to enhance public services.

In addition to the airports, the cabinet reviewed several other proposals, including support measures for farmers and infrastructure upgrades. However, the primary highlight is the push to integrate six rural districts into improved flight networks.

This development is expected to transform travel and spur economic growth in lesser-connected parts of Bihar, providing fresh impetus to regional development and enhancing opportunities for trade, tourism, and employment.
