China builds 30 airports in Tibet, Xinjiang to boost military infra

China has been building about 30 airports in Tibet and Xinjiang provinces to boost China鈥檚 civil and military infrastructure in the remote regions bordering India.

China has been boosting up infrastructure in Tibet. China launched a high-speed bullet train joining the Lhasa with Nyingchi recently, the Tibetan border town near Arunachal Pradesh.

An official in charge of a military transportation dispatch center under the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Western Theatre Command (WTC) said that currently, there are almost 30 civil airports built or under construction in Xinjiang and Tibet.

The PLA official said that the fast development of civil aviation has provided convenience for the air transportation of recruits and veterans in the border regions.

The WTC manages the Xinjiang and the Tibet autonomous regions and the border with India, making it the largest geographical region under one command in the PLA.

The extensive development of road, rail, and airport infrastructure was anticipated to vastly increase the Chinese military鈥檚 ability to transport men, weapons, and materials to the border regions at a faster speed.

A chartered flight transporting 115 veterans took off from Tibet's Shigatse Heping airport and headed for Chengdu, Sichuan Province on September 1, marking the official availability of 23 new air routes for moving recruits and veterans entering and exiting Xinjiang and Tibet, as per the Chinamil online report.

Every veteran and recruits entering and exiting Tibet's Ngari region will be transported by air this year, it said.
