Maharashtra Approves Shirdi Airport Upgrades Ahead of Kumbh Mela

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved key infrastructure upgrades to improve air travel ahead of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. Plans include expanding and modernising Shirdi Airport, building two helipads, and constructing eight parking lots to manage the expected surge in pilgrims.

During the 91st meeting of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company, CM Fadnavis highlighted rapid progress at Shirdi Airport鈥檚 cargo terminal. The airport鈥檚 proximity to Nashik will offer greater convenience to air travellers during the large gathering.

Fadnavis also instructed that plan for expanding Amravati Airport鈥檚 runway be submitted, pointing to the area鈥檚 growing industrial activities. He emphasised developing Latur Airport to strengthen regional connectivity for Beed and Dharashiv districts. The Chief Minister directed fast-tracking of night landing facilities at Karad Airport and extending the runway at Chandrapur Airport for chartered aircraft operations. For Gadchiroli Airport, evaluating alternative locations was recommended.

Progress at airports in Ratnagiri, Akola, Kolhapur, Nanded, and Dhule was reviewed. Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, 16 routes are operational, and eight proposals have been submitted under the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik scheme to the central government to enhance regional connectivity.

Maharashtra continues to upgrade its infrastructure to meet rising air traffic and spiritual travel needs.
