The future Noida International Airport in Jewar has won the Best Infrastructure Award 2022 from Architectural Review Future Projects. The Greenfield airport received this prestigious international prize for its passenger terminal, built by a partnership that included the Nordic Office of Architecture, Grimshaw Architects, Haptic Architects, and STUP Consultants. According to the officials, the design combines Indian warmth and hospitality with Swiss efficiency while balancing customer comfort with long-term sustainability and adaptability. The terminal has green areas both within and outside the structure, presenting a vision for a future airport city. It also allows future expansion possibilities to accommodate 30 million passengers per year. The design focuses on long-term sustainability, and the Noida International Airport will be India's first net-zero emissions airport. The terminal鈥檚 central landscaped courtyard will bring in natural light and ventilation reducing energy costs and carbon footprint. The campus landscaping is designed not only for aesthetic purposes but also for utilitarian value. Flights of stairs, reminiscent of the famed ghats of Varanasi and Haridwar, will be featured in the airport forecourt. A courtyard will let fresh air and sunlight into the terminal building, emulating the look and feel of a haveli. A white, transparent, undulating ceiling, inspired by the area's major rivers, would provide the illusion of a moving water body. Intricate ornamental lattice screens, likewise influenced by Indian architecture, would be featured in the passenger terminal. Christoph Schnellmann, chief executive officer of Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), told the media that it is an honour to receive this award. Schnellmann informed that the airport features an efficient layout, unique design language, and several high-quality sections, all of which are spread out with lush flora and a balanced approach for both energy savings and a palpable feeling of sustainability.
