PM Modi lays foundation stone for Noida International Airport

In 20 years, the Noida International Airport will have 70 million passenger terminals, 186 airport stands, a one million tonne cargo terminal, and excellent connectivity via an expressway, metro, and high-speed rail. On November 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Noida airport project.
The airport is expected to open in 2024, but the developer, Zurich Airport International AG, and the Uttar Pradesh government have much bigger plans for the facility.
The prime minister and chief minister will attend the foundation-laying ceremony on November 25 in Jewar, where a large public rally will also be held, as part of the Yogi Adityanath government's campaign for the 2022 assembly elections.
The Yamuna Expressway, Noida Metro, and a high-speed rail line will all connect to the airport. The proposed high-speed rail line between Delhi and Varanasi will include a station at the Noida International Airport, which will be over 800 km long.
The passenger terminals will have a capacity of 70 million passengers, while the cargo logistics and MRO zone, which will be built at the airport, will have a cargo capacity of 1 million tonnes. The north runway and the south runway, both CAT III compliant, will be built at the airport. Up to 186 airport stands will be built as part of the project to accommodate a large number of planes.
A total of 167 acres in the complex has been set aside for real estate development.
Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is building the Noida International Airport. On October 7, 2020, the Uttar Pradesh government signed a concession agreement with YIAPL, which will be responsible for implementing the public-private partnership project in collaboration with the UP government, New Delhi Okhla Industrial Development Authority(NOIDA), and Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority.
YIAPL will pay a fixed passenger fee to the state-owned authority beginning in the sixth year of the new airport's commissioning, in addition to the necessary capital investments in infrastructure. In the meantime, the NIAL is the implementing agency on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government, having been established as a joint venture in 2018 with an authorised capital of Rs 10,000 crore.
