PM Modi, Spanish PM Sanchez to inaugurate Tata's military aircraft plant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will inaugurate Tata鈥檚 aircraft manufacturing complex in Vadodara, Gujarat, on Monday. Operated by Tata Advanced Systems, this facility will produce C-295 military aircraft, marking the first private-sector facility in India capable of integrating parts from various locations into fully functional military aircraft.

During his visit, PM Modi will also inaugurate development projects valued at over Rs 4,900 crore in Amreli. According to the Prime Minister鈥檚 Office, the agreement includes the construction of 40 aircraft at the Vadodara plant, while Airbus will supply 16 aircraft directly. Tata Advanced Systems will manufacture the remaining 40 domestically.

The project involves collaboration between government and private enterprises, including Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics, as well as contributions from Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). A complete ecosystem will be developed to encompass manufacturing, assembly, testing, certification, and maintenance throughout the aircraft鈥檚 life cycle.

As part of the C-295 program, over 13,000 parts, 4,600 sub-assemblies, and all major component assemblies will be produced in India, while Airbus will supply critical components such as engines, landing gear, and avionics for integration. The C-295 aircraft is designed for tactical airlift, powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW127G turboprop engines, capable of carrying up to nine tons of cargo, 71 personnel, or 45 paratroopers, with a top speed of 480 km/h. It can operate from short or unprepared airstrips and features a rear ramp for cargo and paratrooper drops.

In addition to the aircraft complex, PM Modi will inaugurate the 'Bharat Mata Sarovar' in Amreli, developed through a public-private partnership between the state government and the Dholakia Foundation, reflecting collaborative local development efforts.

The Prime Minister will also unveil several rail, road, water, and tourism projects expected to benefit residents across districts including Amreli, Jamnagar, Morbi, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Junagadh, Porbandar, Kutch, and Botad. These infrastructure developments aim to enhance connectivity and boost tourism, contributing to the region鈥檚 economic growth.
