Pune Airport's new terminal building set to open by August 2022

The new integrated terminal building at Pune Airport, which is being built at a cost of Rs 475 crore, is expected to be completed by August 2022, with 60% of the work already completed according to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

The new terminal building, which spans 5 lakh square feet, will serve 19 million passengers per year and help reduce peak-hour congestion, according to AAI.

The existing terminal building, which has a built-up area of only 22,000 sq m, can handle up to 7 million passengers per annum (MPPA) according to AAI.

The existing structure handled more than 9 million passengers in 2018-19.

AAI has invested Rs 475 crore in the construction of a new integrated terminal building at Pune Airport to alleviate congestion during peak hours. Approximately 60% of the work has been completed, and the new building is expected to be completed by August 2022.

The new structure will include, among other things, five-passenger boarding bridges, 34 check-in counters, and an in-line baggage handling system, as well as 36,000 sq ft of food and beverage (F&B) and retail space.

The structure will be energy efficient, with a GRIHA rating of four stars.

The airport is also constructing a multilevel car parking facility with ground plus three-storeyed and two basement floors at a cost of Rs 120 crore, according to the AAI. The facility will need to park 1,024 cars and will be connected to the existing building's departure area through a sky bridge, which will include a stairwell, escalators, and elevators on the building side for dropping or going up.
