Pune Airport Sets New 24-Hour Cargo Record Of 144 Tonnes

Pune Airport has reached a significant milestone by handling a record 144 metric tonnes of cargo within a 24-hour period, highlighting its growing importance as a regional air freight hub. Between 6 am on 3 June and 6 am on 4 June 2025, the airport managed 72.73 metric tonnes of inbound cargo and 71.24 metric tonnes of outbound cargo, surpassing all previous records and signalling increased demand for air cargo services in the area.

This surge in cargo traffic is driven by Pune’s expanding industrial base and the growing need for efficient logistics solutions. Local businesses and exporters are increasingly relying on air freight to access global markets, enabling faster deliveries and more efficient supply chains.

Pune Airport’s ability to manage this volume is credited to ongoing infrastructure improvements and strategic initiatives designed to enhance operational efficiency. Airport management expressed confidence that this upward trend will continue, further cementing Pune’s position in India’s air freight network. This achievement not only reflects operational excellence but also underscores Pune’s rising prominence in national and international trade corridors. As the city develops into a major economic centre, the airport’s role in supporting commerce is set to become even more crucial.

In parallel with the cargo milestone, Pune Airport inaugurated the Elysian International executive lounge in the international security hold area of the New Integrated Terminal Building. The lounge was officially opened by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, marking a key enhancement in the passenger experience for international travellers.

Santosh Dhoke, Pune Airport director, described the lounge as blending modern elegance with functionality, featuring comfortable seating, a curated gourmet dining menu, and exclusive services tailored for international passengers. “The serene ambiance and contemporary design offer an ideal setting for relaxation or work before flights, he said.

Dhoke added that the state-of-the-art lounge highlights the Airports Authority of India’s commitment to developing Pune Airport as a world-class aviation hub. Complementing the existing domestic lounge, the Elysian International lounge reinforces Pune’s reputation as a dynamic economic and cultural centre, serving over 10 million passengers annually.
