Telangana Allocates Rs.205 Crore for Mamnoor Airport Land Acquisition

The Telangana government has sanctioned ?2.05 billion for acquiring over 280 acres of land to develop Mamnoor Airport in Warangal. The move follows a "No Objection" certificate issued by GMR Group, which manages Hyderabad Airport, allowing operations at Mamnoor.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) had earlier expressed readiness to develop the airport for A-320 aircraft with instrument flight rules (IFR) operations, provided the state government allocated 253 acres of encumbrance-free land at no cost. AAI will handle infrastructure, operations, and maintenance for the facility.

Under a concession agreement with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, GMR had restricted new or upgraded airports within 150 km of Hyderabad Airport until 2033. However, Mamnoor's location, 175 km away, aligns with the terms, enabling progress. Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy led discussions with GMR officials to secure the necessary approvals.

State officials have requested AAI to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the airport. The district collector of Warangal has been directed to expedite land acquisition for the project.

This development is expected to boost Warangal's connectivity and economic prospects, with plans aligning to accommodate A-320 aircraft for domestic operations.
