UP govt fast tracks Ayodhya International airport project

The Uttar Pradesh government has fast-tracked the Ayodhya International airport project, with Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University approving the allotment of 3,900 hectares of land for the project.

About 30 buildings on this land, comprising vice-chancellor Ravi Shanker Singh鈥檚 official residence, will also be provided to the Union civil aviation ministry for the airport which is officially called the Maryada Purushottam Shriram International Airport.

Last week, the executive council of the university approved a proposal of the state high education department to provide the said land free of cost. The university also passed a project asking for Rs 21.02 crore for infrastructure from the state government.

The Ayodhya airport project was delayed due to opposition by Dharampur Sahadat and Janaura villages residents as they were not ready to hand over their land to the state government for the project. But ending the delay, 107 families of the two villages have now given their land for the airport project to the Ayodhya administration.

District magistrate, Ayodhya, Anuj Jha told the media that the state government has passed the plan for providing advantages to 107 families under the Pradhan Mantra Awas Yojana who will be relocated due to the airport project.

After villagers accepted to relocate, an alternative land has also been allocated to them within the limits of the Ayodhya Municipal Corporation, added Jha.

As per the state government, Rs 1001.77 crore has been aligned for the 555.66-acre land acquisition for the airport development. Families relocated for the airport project will also get advantages from several other schemes of the state government.
