Andhra Pradesh to invest Rs 6,400 cr to develop new roads

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to develop new roads at Rs 6,400 crore with financial aid from New Development Bank (NDB) in the state.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced this on Monday at a high-level review meeting on roads, airports, and seaports.
The action plan to develop new roads, especially the two-lane roads joining Mandal and district headquarters, were briefed to the officials.
The officials assessed the progress of the ongoing national highway projects and the suggested new roads. They said that Vijayawada-Bengaluru by Kodikonda's check-post, was put on fast-track while, Sheelanagar-Sabbavaram the national highway in Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalli to Anandapuram road through Visakhapatnam was ready for building.
Reddy guided the officials to coordinate with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) authorities to take up laying such roads. He said that repairing damaged roads was the preference as the intensity of rains would subside by October. He slammed the earlier Telugu Desam regime for neglecting the repair and development of roads.
He asked officials to invite tenders for road repair and development works in case tenders were not yet invited and take up works once rains fall. He requested an action plan to take up approaching roads to the bridges.
The officials on seaports said that Ramayapatnam port construction would be built in 24 months and said that 25 million tonnes of cargo would be transported, and there would be four berths in the first phase.
He said the tender process for taking up Bhavanapadu port works would be completed by October end, and for phase one, an expenditure of Rs 2,956 crore is expected.
