The Edappally-Kozhikode NH 66 will be transformed into a six-lane access-controlled corridor. The construction work for the same will commence shortly in the Ernakulam district. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has given a 25% compensation amount to people that surrender their land for the project. Similarly, 90% of the owners of the Malappuram area and 80% in the Thrissur area have been given compensation. The six-lane corridor will be surrounded by two-lane service roads on each side. Both of them will have a seven meter long tarred carriageway. The project will decrease the time required to travel from Kochi to Kozhikode by almost two hours. Deputy collectors responsible for land acquisition disbursed a compensation of Rs 4,000 crore. Contractors that will be executing this project in different parts of the national highway have been finalised. The project work is said to be completed in approximately three years. After the work begins, the NHAI will be fixing a 30-month deadline. Additionally, five to six months are required for completing the demolition of buildings on the land that has been acquired, chopping down the trees, and shifting underground as well as overhead utilities.
