MSRDC inks pact with GAIL for laying gas pipelines

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the authority implementing the project, has signed an agreement with the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) to lay gas pipelines alongside the utility corridor, on each side of the Mumbai-Nagpur expressway.

The Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg from Mumbai to Nagpur brings prosperity to the state of Maharashtra. Before the highway is even thrown open for traffic, the corridor which is currently under construction received Rs 500 crore for the state exchequer.

MSRDC VC and MD Radheshyam Mopalwar told the media that the idea of having a utility corridor was ensuring the interiors of the state like Wardha, Jalna, and Aurangabad will have direct gas pipeline supply.

He said that Jalna is the steel manufacturing capital of Maharashtra. With the supply of gas, the sector will be boosted. Domestic users will further benefit from it. The households in the interior belt of Maharashtra will have easy gas supply through these pipelines. It will majorly impact the industrial as well as domestic levels. The officials said the MSRDC has signed the lease agreement for 30 years. Already 80% of the amount which is Rs 500 crore has already been disbursed.

The work of laying down the gas pipeline has also been started.
