Pune civic body awards Rs 135 cr contract for Sinhgad road flyover

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has granted a Rs 135 crore contract for the construction of a flyover on the Sinhagad road stretch.
Hemant Rasane, chairperson of the PMC Standing Committee told the media that an estimate of Rs 135 crore had been generated by the civic government. T&T Infra Ltd was awarded the contract for Rs 134.70 crore.
Rasane informed that the project's foundation stone will be placed shortly, depending on the availability of key state BJP leaders, and that the project will be completed in 36 months.
The Metro route is likely to be created on Sinhagad Road in the future, Rasane said a no-objection certificate will be obtained from Pune Metro, and the flyover will be planned in such a way that pillars for the metro route will not be a problem.
The proposed flyover is a series of flyovers that run from Rajaram Bridge to Funtime Cinema on the main Sinhgad Road. The 1,890 m flyover from the city to Sinhagad Road will begin at Vithalwadi and end in front of the Funtime Cinema theatre, passing through six intersections.
The 1,540 m flyover connecting Sinhagad road to the city will begin in front of the Indian Hume Pipe in Manik Baug and end at Inamdar chowk near Ranka Jewellers in Hingane, passing through four intersections. While jumping the main junction of the Rajaram bridge, another flyover of 495 m will begin near Vithalwadi and end near Veer Baji Pasalkar Udyan.
The PMC built the flyover in response to several requests from residents and elected officials, citing increased traffic congestion on the only road connecting areas like Hingne Khurd, Anandnagar, Vadgaon Budruk, Vadgaon Dhayari, Narhe, and Ambegaon Budruk, among others, where the population has been rapidly increasing.
Due to the presence of residential buildings on both sides of Sinhagad Road, the civic body has been unable to widen it. The PMC also proposed putting a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on the road, but due to a lack of space for dedicated BRTS lanes, it was unable to do so.
