1,004 Accident Blackspots Found in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra traffic police verified that there are currently 1,004 areas prone to accidents, referred to as blackspots, along the roads and highways within the state.

Ravinder Singal, the Additional Director General of Police (Traffic), who was present in the city for a road safety workshop, highlighted that pedestrians and bikers not wearing helmets constitute the majority of fatalities resulting from road accidents.

A blackspot is defined as a 500-meter road segment that has experienced either five accidents resulting in deaths or serious injuries, or ten fatalities within a span of three years. The police attributed the primary cause of these accidents across the state to drivers exceeding the designated speed limits.
