Chennai port eases traffic

To ease traffic congestion of container-laden vehicles going to the Chennai harbour, the Chennai Port Trust will operate a parking yard at Tiruvottiyur in North Chennai. The container trucks will now have to visit the yard to verify and proceed to the port. This procedure will prevent the vehicles waiting at Ennore Expressway from holding up the traffic. The port has spent Rs 5.81 crore on the yard, which can park 250 trailers and has taken the land on a 30-year lease from Chennai Corporation.
