India鈥檚 longest bridge over river Brahmaputra to be 19.3-km-long. Know more!

The government has planned for the longest bridge in the country over the Brahmaputra river, which is reported to be 19.3-km-long. The bridge will be constructed between Dhubri in Assam and Phulbari in Meghalaya. On completion, it will be twice the length of the Dhola-Sadiya bridge 鈥� currently the longest in the country. The bridge is expected to be completed by 2026-27.

As per reports, four lanes have been proposed under the project. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), through the National Highways and Industrial Development Corporation (NICL), is in the process of preparing a detailed project report (DPR).

Japanese funding agency JICA has reportedly granted an initial loan amount for the project. At present, inhabitants cross this section of the river through small boats, which resort to a longer route of 100 km before climbing the Naranarayan bridge.

Currently, India鈥檚 longest bridge is between Dhola and Sadiya in Assam, with a length of 9.15 km. The other long bridges include the 6.2-km-long bridge in Arunachal Pradesh over river Dibang, the 5.75-km-long bridge over river Ganga between Hajipur and Patna, the Bandra-Worli sea-link in Mumbai, and the 4.94-km-long Bogibeel bridge, which is proposed to open this year.
