NHAI to use software-based tracking to detect delays

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will deploy software specifically to track files that will detect officials behind delays in disposing of matters, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said yesterday. The move aims to curb red-tapism and enhance transparency.

Gadkari said that several proposals have been made to enhance efficiency and transparency in NHAI. The aim of the new software-based tracking is to facilitate timely corruption-free work.

In June 2020, NHAI had announced the introduction of Data Lake software to forecast delays, likely disputes and expedite decision making. It claimed to be the first construction sector organisation to go “fully digital with the incorporation of the cloud-based software.

The minister also said that a project management consultancy system would be introduced soon, where land acquisition, alignment, forest environment clearance, utility shifting, construction, designing, road safety and road amenities, everything about the project will be provided. New technologies are being promoted, while attention is being paid on reducing construction cost of projects without compromising the quality, said Gadkari.
