Rain exposes quality of road works in Hubli

In Hubli, the recent rains have made the lives of vehicle-users and pedestrians miserable, thanks to the severe beating several roads have taken. Major roads in the city have either caved in or developed huge potholes, because of the poor quality of repair works. The Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) undertook road repair works under the Rs 100 crore special grant. It got this grant twice for the development of Hubli-Dharwad twin cities, of which, Rs 64 crore had been spent on repairing interior roads.

HDMC had given Rs 22 crore to the PWD to take up road works, but the recent rains have exposed the poor quality of work. The road from Shivaji statue to Dasankoppa Road and Savadatti Road are two glaring examples. According to sources, HDMC had given Rs 29.87 crore for road works from the first Rs 100 crore special grant and Rs 35.78 crore from the second Rs 100 crore special grant. Of this amount, Rs 22 crore was given to PWD, Rs 5 crore for village roads and Rs 36 crore for HDMC roads.
