Road repair works in Chennai's Tiruvottiyur zone, which started more than six months back by the Chennai Corporation, are still incomplete. The Corporation started road 颅improvement works for the eight newly-added ar颅eas. Traffic congestion and encroachments on the Tiruvottiyur High Road, which connects the city to the northern suburbs, are still a problem for residents and motorists.

Commuter of Tiruvottiyur complain that traffic congestion on TH Road is very common. R Jaya颅raman, former municipal chairman of Tiruvottiyur, said that the area was much better when it was under municipal administration. Underground dra颅inage work had started in this area long back but it was stopped all of a sudden. Streetlights on CH Road and Manali Express Road hardly function. Many interior roads in Tiruvottiyur are in a pathetic state.

Encroachment is another problem in Tiruvottiyur roads. The civic body had earlier said that it would take steps to remove enc颅roa颅chments from Kal颅ad颅i颅pet to Vimco Nagar. Sta颅ti颅ng that the Highways Dep颅ar颅tment had started rem颅ov颅ing encroachments, Cou颅ncillor S Vincent said that the road widening work has already commenced.
