Vyttila-Pettah Road in Kochi to be widened soon

The Kerala government on February 24 granted sanction for the land acquisition for widening the Vyttila-Pettah Road and for shifting the Railway quarters in connection with the Kochi Metro rail work. A decision in this regard was taken at a high-level committee meeting presided over by Chief Secretary Jose Syriac.

As per the plans, the Vyttila-Petta Road will be widened to 26 metre and a total of 9.35 hectares of land will be acquired for the purpose. The permission was given quickly as the improvement of the road is necessary for the construction of via ducts for the Kochi Metro rail.

The widening of the road will be done according to the alignment of the Metro Rail line. Meanwhile, in Ernakulam South, the Railway quarters land is being acquired to build the Kochi Metro rail station there. The Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) management has discussed the issue with the Railway authorities and both the parties have arrived at a consensus in this matter.

However, the KMRL is awaiting the sanction from the state government to take over the 3.14 acres of land in South Railway station area to rebuild the quarters. The meeting was attended by the several officials of the PWD, Finance, Transport and Land Revenue departments, along with the Kochi Metro Rail authorities.
