Assam's Longest Road Bridge set to launch on Aug 28

The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that the longest road bridge in Assam, connecting Kamakhya Gate to Maligaon in west Guwahati, is set to be inaugurated on August 28, 2023. The bridge, which spans a 2.63 km stretch, has reached an overall construction progress of 93 percent as of August 1, 2023, at a cost of Rs 4.2 billion.

The main bridge's foundation and sub-structure, along with its Pandu arm, have been fully completed. However, only two out of the 124 deck slabs in the superstructure, as well as a deck slab in the Pandu arm, remain unfinished. The approach sections have seen significant progress, with a reinforced earth wall being 95 percent complete at the Maligaon end, 80 percent at the Kamakhya end, and 95 percent at the Pandu end. Additionally, 1,020 meters out of the 1,600-meter drain have been successfully constructed. Yet to be completed are the service lane and parking facilities.

Although the official deadline for the flyover's completion is October 23, 2023, vehicular movement is set to commence on August 28, 2023, contributing to the alleviation of traffic congestion in west Guwahati once the project is fully finished.
