BMC completes 2 km tunnel works of Mumbai coastal road project

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed 2 km tunneling works of the Mumbai coastal road project.

Under Package 4, a tunnel of 2.7 km is being constructed on each of the sides between the Priyadarshini Park and the Chota Chowpatty by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

BMC told the media that out of the 2.7 km, 2 km of the first tunnel has been constructed. The remaining 70 meters is expected to be completed in the upcoming eight to 10 days.

According to the officials, Package 4 comprises two tunnels, on either side of the main road. The tunnels will also go under the Malabar hill area. 10 meters to 70 meters underground is the depth at which the excavations are being carried out. The construction of the first tunnel began from the Priyadarshini Park on January 11, 2021. The first kilometer of the first tunnel was completed on September 4, 2021. Whereas the other one was on December 29. Officials are positive that the remaining work of 70 meters is expected to be completed in another upcoming 10 days.
