BMC nods proposal to extend Borivali flyover at 300% cost surge

On Thursday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) standing committee approved the proposal for extending the flyover near Kora Kendra in Borivali, which was earlier permitted, with a cost surge of 300% by the civic committee.

The construction cost is likely to increase from nearly Rs 150 crore to more than Rs 650 crore. In 2018, the civic body had proposed the flyover in the Kora Kendra area of Borivali from Link Road to SV road area measuring about 930 metres at Rs 150 crore.

However, now, the BMC has proposed extending the flyover further up to the Western Express highway by another 860 metres. Civic officials told the media that even though it is an extension of the same project, it will be a completely new phase of work that would be carried out in Borivali east.

The flyover work is currently ongoing in Borivali west. The contractor hired for the previous project has been given the extension work.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had proposed the extension of the under-constructed 970 metres flyover with an aim to decongest traffic near the Borivali station area. The 860 metres extension would decongest the Kora Kendra Junction that controls thousands of vehicular traffic daily.
