Elphinstone ROB may Close this Month for Demolition in Connector Project

The Elphinstone Road Over Bridge (ROB) in Prabhadevi, Mumbai, a key component of the city鈥檚 transport network for over 125 years, is set to be demolished this month. Originally constructed to enable movement across the Western and Central Railway lines, the bridge has served as a crucial east-west link, facilitating the daily movement of thousands of vehicles and pedestrians.

In its place, a modern double-decker bridge will be constructed as part of the Sewri-Worli Connector, a critical segment of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link鈥檚 traffic dispersal system. The new structure is designed to enhance connectivity between the eastern and western parts of Mumbai while alleviating traffic congestion in the area.

The extensive construction work will necessitate the closure of the route for at least two years. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is expected to receive clearance from Mumbai traffic police to proceed with the project. The closure will lead to alternate routes and traffic diversions, impacting daily commuters and vehicular movement in the vicinity.

Authorities anticipate that the redevelopment of this bridge will significantly improve transportation infrastructure in Mumbai, providing long-term benefits despite the temporary inconvenience caused by the construction phase.
