Ganga Bridge and Ramnagar Fort roads to undergo widening

The Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) is set to enhance the infrastructure around the Ganga Bridge, which connects the Ramnagar township to the cis-Ganga areas. This project will include the widening of the approach road and a proposal for the strengthening and beautification of the fort road, incorporating a dedicated vending zone.

VDA Vice Chairman Pulkit Garg emphasized the need for improved infrastructure to manage the heavy traffic on the fort road, a key tourist destination and bustling market. A comprehensive study has been conducted to address these challenges by widening, strengthening, and beautifying the fort road, along with developing a vending zone.

Before finalizing the project, the VDA engaged consultant Ernst & Young to prepare a proposal. The firm presented a detailed analysis of the current conditions and suggested components for the project. The proposal includes plans for widening and beautifying the road from the Samneghat-Ramnagar bridge approach to the main intersection at Ramnagar Fort.

Key features of the project will involve constructing dividers along the road to improve traffic flow and minimize the risk of accidents. The proposed vending zone on both sides of the fort road will include pathways and garden furniture to enhance facilities for visitors and residents alike.

Garg noted that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) has been instructed to review revenue records and gather necessary information about the road's width and the ownership of properties adjacent to the fort road, as additional space will be needed for the project. During a recent meeting, the importance of accurate property information was stressed to prevent any delays in construction.

Discussions also covered the beautification plans for the Ganga Bridge and the road leading to the fort. The proposed enhancements aim to increase greenery and develop modern infrastructure for the convenience of both tourists and locals. The vending zone is expected to play a vital role in generating local employment opportunities, according to officials.
