Govt to Earn 42 Per Cent Revenue Share from Kedarnath Ropeway Project

The government will earn revenue from the upcoming Kedarnath ropeway project without any capital investment, as Adani Enterprises has proposed to share forty-two per cent of earnings with the National Highway Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML), the implementing agency.

The 13-kilometre ropeway will connect Sonprayag, Gaurikund, and Kedarnath, cutting travel time from eight to nine hours to just thirty-six minutes. Designed with Tri-cable Detachable Gondola (3S) technology, each gondola will carry thirty-six passengers.

The Cabinet recently approved the Rs 40.81 billion project, which will be executed on a public private partnership (PPP) basis. The system is expected to transport eighteen thousand persons daily or around 3.2 million annually. The Kedarnath temple typically remains open for six months each year.

The successful bidder will operate, maintain, and collect fares from the ropeway for thirty-five years. The project is set for completion within six years. Last year, nearly 2.3 million pilgrims visited the Kedarnath shrine.

Meanwhile, financial bids for the 12.4-kilometre Govindghat鈥揋hangaria鈥揌emkund Sahib ropeway project, estimated at Rs 27.3 billion, will be opened next week. It will have a daily capacity of eleven thousand passengers.
