Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved a total allocation of Rs 2.73 billion for the redevelopment of three crucial railway overbridges, including Kalupur, Sarangpur, and a new bridge in Radhanpur. The funds will be disbursed under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2010. The redevelopment projects are part of the broader Rs 4.4 billion Kalupur Railway Station Redevelopment Project, which focuses on improving infrastructure to enhance ease of living, safety, and traffic flow. Historic Overbridges to Be Revamped The Kalupur Railway Overbridge, known as the Manu Bhai Parmar Bridge, was constructed 108 years ago in 1915, while the Sarangpur Railway Overbridge was built in 1940, making it 83 years old. Both bridges have become insufficient for the city鈥檚 growing traffic needs, with Kalupur having three lanes and Sarangpur only two lanes. Considering their age, safety concerns, and increasing traffic load, both bridges will be demolished and reconstructed as four-lane structures by the Railway Land Development Authority. Radhanpur Overbridge to Boost Connectivity In addition to Ahmedabad鈥檚 projects, Rs 528.3 million has been approved for constructing a new overbridge at railway crossing LC-100-2E on the Radhanpur-Bhilot road. This bridge will connect Radhanpur, Bhilot, and Suigam, easing the movement of goods and improving travel for citizens.
