KMDA to check structural condition of three bridges in Kolkata

The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) is set to conduct a structural condition assessment of three bridges over Tolly's Nullah, which includes Dhana Dhanya Setu, Kidderpore Old Steel Bridge and Doi Ghat Bridge.

KDMA has reported the concerned agencies to conduct the assessment, including the post-repair load tests. For the three bridges, a detailed project report (DPR) will be curated for the repair, maintenance, and retrofitting.

Officials from KMDA said that the structural assessment of the bridges is a part of the third phase of structural condition assessment of the bridges and flyover.

As per the bridges experts, the bridges to undergo the structural assessment were constructed many years ago yet, the structural condition assessment and durability test of the bridges are not completed.

The experts said that the structural assessment is to check the deterioration in the structural condition and if its load-bearing capacity is reduced or not.

The health audit of many of the KDMA's bridges and flyovers have already been completed. It included the load-bearing capacity tests. Currently, KDMA is repairing some of the bridges, including the Kalighat bridge.

Recently, KDMA completed half of the repairing work of the Kalighat Setu. The bridge is made more sturdy, and corrosion from the piers have been removed. The EM Bypass-bound Ultadanga flyover work is under construction, and the work on the single span of the flyover is almost completed. Now, the bridge will undergo the post-repair load test.
