Maharashtra govt approves survey for Jalna-Nanded expressway construction

On Tuesday, Minister of Public Works Department, Ashok Chavan, told the media that the Maharashtra government has permitted to conduct a survey of the expressway construction between Jalna and Nanded cities in the Marathwada region, which would link to the under-construction Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Highway.

The State government has approved developing a detailed project report for the proposed expressway project.

A government resolution (GR) announced on September 6 said that Nanded, located on the banks of the Godavari river, has religious significance for Sikhs and is like south Kashi for that community. Nanded is the second most significant city in Marathwada after Aurangabad since it links to nearby states of Karnataka and Telangana, and vehicles travel from there in huge numbers.

As per the GR, the government approved conducting a drone survey for the length of the proposed road between Nanded and Jalna cities.

An agency will be appointed to develop a detailed project report for the proposed project. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has been selected as an implementing authority of this project, it said.

The planned road will connect the under-construction Samruddhi Expressway, which will connect to Jalna.

The GR for the Jalna-Nanded expressway has been approved. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has been cooperating for the same from the start. It will help the Parbhani, Nanded and Hingoli districts of Marathwada.
