MLA Yashpal Suvarna instructed officials to commence work on the Malpe-Udupi Highway on Wednesday. A meeting took place, attended by MP Kota Shrinivas Poojary, Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, and Kaup MLA Suresh Shetty Gurme, to discuss the National Highway 169A project, which spans from Malpe to Udupi, covering areas like Hiriyadka, Parkala, and Perdur.
The project had experienced delays due to incomplete land acquisition, but compensation notices have now been issued to the landowners. Of the 214 land acquisition files, 19 pertain to government land, while 195 involve private owners. Notices have been sent to 51 private landowners, with 48 already submitting their documents for compensation. Efforts are ongoing to notify the remaining 144 landowners, and MLA Suvarna urged officials to resume work on the Malpe to Udupi section on Wednesday.
In relation to the Parkala highway section, a court stay had previously hindered progress, but a favorable decision was recently secured for the government. MP Poojary stressed the need for prompt compensation payments to landowners to enable the start of the project.
In Perdur, a 600-meter stretch near a temple remains under a court stay. Kaup MLA Gurme suggested continuing work in other areas while respecting the devotees鈥 request to preserve the temple's original structure and the Kalyani (pond).
Kundapura AC Mahesh Chandra, officials Manjunath Gowda, Naveen Raj, and Manjunath Nayak, along with city council member Sundar Kalmadi and revenue department officials, were also present at the meeting.
