MMRDA plans tunnel to connect Eastern freeway to Girgaon Chowpatty

In order to avoid the Crawford market, the GPO and CSMT crossroads, and other congested areas, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is looking into the prospect of building a tunnel. The MMRDA has issued a request for proposals to select a consultant to carry out a feasibility study and produce an in-depth project report. The planning agency has invited bids for the hiring of a consultant to conduct a feasibility study, write a detailed project report, and supervise the selection of a project management consultant and contractor to construct a tunnel road. According to reports, the underpass would also enable easy access to the coastal route in the future and is predicted to reduce travel time from the current 28鈥30 minutes to just five minutes.
