Mumbai: New Versova bridge set to open early next year

As of next year, traffic congestion around the Versova bridge in Mira-Bhayandar should be relieved, thanks to the new bridge across Vasai Creek, which is anticipated to open to traffic in the first quarter of 2023. According to officials, construction on the new four-lane bridge is moving quickly toward completion.

Currently, the Versova bridge at Ghodbunder on National Highway-8 has two bridges on either side of it. The older of these two is the one on the downstream side. After being renovated in 2013鈥2014, it was made available to the public with a 15-tonne load limit.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) decided to construct a second four-lane bridge due to the substantial amount of traffic that travels between Mumbai and Surat. As a result, the then-chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari were present at the stone-laying ceremony for the Rs 247 crore bridge over Vasai Creek in January 2018.

The project alignment spans 2.25 km, beginning on the Mumbai side of NH-8 and ending on the Surat side. The proposed bridge's 917.875 metres plus both of its approaches' 1.33 km make up the entire length. Both approaches take place on level ground. The new four-lane Versova bridge is almost finished, and it will be opened to traffic in the first quarter of 2023, according to an NHAI official. A few days prior, MP Rajan Vichare had gone to the bridge's construction site to inspect the work that was being done.

Thousands of drivers use the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway every day as a vital link between the two major cities.
