Mumbai Coastal Road-Worli-Sewri underpass to open by May

A 550-metre-long, 11-metre-wide vehicular underpass connecting the Mumbai Coastal Road with the Worli-Sewri corridor is expected to be operational by May, as stated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This underpass, which caters to motorists traveling from Dadar and Prabhadevi towards the Mumbai Coastal Road, is the only one included in the 10.58-km coastal road project.

Civic officials have mentioned that the underpass has been designed with future traffic needs in mind. Vehicles traveling from the Sewri-Worli elevated corridor will be able to access the underpass easily, providing direct routes to the western suburbs or the southern tip of Mumbai via the coastal road. This design is expected to significantly reduce travel time.

A civic official informed that the underpass would complete the last missing link of the coastal road. The official added that the ongoing works were in their final stages and would be completed by early May. The official also mentioned that the underpass would be opened for motorists soon after completion. Once opened, motorists coming from Dadar would be able to enter the coastal road directly, without needing to exit at the Worli or Haji Ali interchanges.

The underpass will run below Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road, connecting J K Kapur Chowk with the coastal road via the vehicular interchange at Bindoo Madhav Thackeray Chowk at the Worli sea face.
