NFHRCC Begins First Phase of 2-lane Foothills Road Construction

The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) marked a significant milestone by launching the first phase of the 2-lane Foothills Road construction project on January 6, 2025. The inaugural program took place at the Sungkhatchu River and was attended by prominent stakeholders, including representatives from local Civil Society Organizations, apex tribal Hohos, and divisional departmental officials. The launch symbolises a critical step towards improving road connectivity in the region, benefiting both local communities and the broader transportation network.

The initial phase includes the construction of a 50-ft double-lane galvanized steel bridge spanning the Sungkhatchu River in the Baghty Division. Additionally, roadwork spanning 8.5 km of double-lane and 21 km of single-lane roads between Tuli and Naganimora has commenced simultaneously. These developments are expected to significantly enhance mobility and accessibility in this strategically important region.

In line with the work orders issued by the Nagaland Public Works Department (NPWD) for Roads & Bridges, the construction efforts will be carried out by P Mha-Tum & Co. and 3S Infra. The project has been allocated budgets of Rs 20.04 million and Rs 140.67 million for the respective contractors. The NFHRCC emphasized the importance of timely execution and urged all contractor firms that have signed implementation agreements to expedite the commencement of construction activities without delay.

The launch of this project underscores the NFHRCC鈥檚 commitment to advancing infrastructure development in Nagaland, fostering economic growth, and meeting the long-standing aspirations of the local population for better road connectivity.
