Nitin Gadkari reviews progress of Kaziranga Elevated Road project

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said today that the Kaziranga Elevated Road project was reviewed. In a series of tweets, he stated that the initiative entails the construction of approximately 34 kilometres of elevated roads at animal crossing sites identified by the Wildlife Institute of India.

It also entails widening the intervening at-grade road to a 4-lane highway with a total length of approximately 50 kilometres and constructing tunnels spanning approximately 3 kilometres.

Gadkari stated that as part of cost-cutting efforts, he has directed that the tunnels be treated as a separate project and that the debris and muck generated by their construction be used in road works. Furthermore, he suggested the inclusion of viewing platforms on the elevated road, complete with vehicle parking and kiosks, to provide tourists with an opportunity for wildlife watching, he added.
