Noida to Widen Road at Chhijarsi to Ease Traffic Congestion

The Noida Authority is moving forward with plans to widen the road around Chhijarsi to alleviate traffic congestion, especially for commuters traveling from National Highway 9 to the Faridabad Noida Ghaziabad (FNG) corridor. Initially, plans for an elevated flyover in the area were considered but have now been scrapped.

The road widening project will commence once encroachments around Chhijarsi are cleared. As part of the process, the Noida Traffic Cell is conducting a survey to assess the extent of the widening and improve traffic flow, while also ensuring safe pedestrian movement on designated footpaths.

Initial surveys indicate that approximately 640 metres of road from the Chhijarsi Cut to the Chhijarsi Roundabout on National Highway 9 will be widened by 8 meters on both sides, allowing for the development of a three-lane road. A two-metre-wide footpath will also be constructed to ensure safer pedestrian access. Currently, the road is only 1.5 lanes wide and has been encroached upon by nearby businesses.

The road will be expanded to accommodate three lanes, each 11 metres wide, alongside a two-metre-wide footpath. Bollards will be installed along the footpath to prevent encroachments and ensure it is solely for pedestrian use.

The Noida Authority will bear the costs of this project. Structures that have encroached on the road, including shops, hospitals, and residential properties, will be demolished and relocated. The land is owned by the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department, which has been illegally occupied by the encroachments. The Irrigation Department will carry out the widening work, with the Noida Authority covering the expenses.

To expedite the project, a detailed road action plan is being prepared by the consultant company conducting the survey. This plan will be presented to officials for approval, and once approved, the tender process will move forward to ensure a timely contract with the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department, aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing congestion.
