The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced plans to construct ten new double-decker flyovers to reduce congestion and improve urban connectivity. In partnership with Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the initiative builds on the success of existing structures at Karve Road and Ganeshkhind Road.
These integrated flyovers will feature metro tracks on the upper deck and vehicular lanes on the lower deck, optimising vertical space usage while easing ground-level traffic. The already operational Nal Stop flyover on Karve Road has received positive feedback from commuters, while the Ganeshkhind Road flyover connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar is nearing completion.
The upcoming flyovers are proposed at:
Mundhwa鈥揗ahatma Phule Chowk, Solapur Road鈥揔alubai Chowk, Dandekar Pul Chowk, Awhalwadi Chowk in Wagholi, Warje鈥揂mbedkar Chowk, Bhusari Colony鈥揔othrud Bus Depot, Golibar Maidan Chowk, Viman Nagar Chowk, Fatimanagar Chowk in Wanowrie, and Ravidarshan Junction in Manjari.
Each structure will be developed with design input from Maha-Metro to ensure smooth integration. To support this initiative, Rs 20 billion has been earmarked in the 2025鈥26 municipal budget for road and traffic development, including road widening, missing link roads, and grade separators.
This effort reflects Pune鈥檚 long-term strategy for sustainable urban mobility and may serve as a model for other cities dealing with rapid growth and congestion.
