Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang chaired a meeting to review the progress of road projects in the state and to address concerns regarding land availability, according to officials. During the meeting, officers from various agencies provided him with detailed briefings about issues related to land acquisition, including complications surrounding compensation. Tamang stated that he had convened a meeting at Samman Bhawan with senior officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) to discuss the land issues affecting road projects in the state. He explored potential solutions to streamline the land acquisition process and examined specific cases that had hindered project progress. Additionally, he discussed strategies to effectively resolve these disputes. Tamang emphasized the importance of collaboration among the agencies to expedite infrastructure development while addressing the concerns of landowners. Attendees of the meeting included Chief Secretary VB Pathak, DGP AK Singh, secretaries from various line departments, and district collectors. Officials reported that Sikkim incurs financial losses of over Rs 5 billion each monsoon season due to heavy rains, which lead to landslides that severely damage roads and bridges. The frequent closure of NH-10A, the sole highway connecting Sikkim to the rest of the country, disrupts normal life in the border state.
