Thane civic body invites suggestions for Thane-Borivali tunnel plan

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has invited suggestions and objections for providing reservations to the Thane-Borivali tunnel in its development plan.

TMC Commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma told the media that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is implementing the project said that they need space and change of reservation where the tunnel lands in Thane. They have got this approved in their general body and have invited suggestions and objections.

The work was initially commenced by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and later handed over to MMRDA.

The six-lane tunnel will be 11.8-km long and pass under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).

MP Singh, an executive engineer of MMRDA, told the media that they have begun the plan from the State Board of Wildlife, and the draft detailed project report is achieved. On Thane side, the tunnel will come out at Neelkanth Garden and then will be connected to Ghodbunder road, and in Borivali, it will come out at Magathane depot.鈥

He said that no vertical ventilation would be allowed as perforations have to be made in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, and thus only horizontal ventilation will be permitted.
