Vehicles to have three decks to transport two-wheelers: MoRTH

An official told the media that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has allowed rigid vehicles and trailers to have three decks to transport two-wheeler vehicles, with the load body not projecting out over the driver's cabin.

According to a statement, it will enhance the carriage capacity by 40-50%. MoRTH has issued a notification to amend Rule 93 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989.

As per the order, rigid vehicles and trailers can have a maximum of three decks to transport two-wheelers, with the load body not projecting over the driver's cabin.

MoRTH had instructed that cash vans should comply with the minimum requirements according to the Automotive Industry Standard till the corresponding Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) specifications are notified under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act 2016.

It will facilitate the manufacturing, type approval testing, and registration of cash vans as special purpose vehicles (SPV).

MoRTH issued a notification whereby cash vans should comply with the minimum requirements as per the Automotive Industry Standard as amended from time to time till the corresponding BIS specifications are notified under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act 2016.

The Ministry said it would facilitate the manufacturing, type approval testing, and registration of cash vans as SPV.
