Vizianagaram-Rajam-Palakonda Road Will Be Developed As A State Highway

The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated measures to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to develop the Vizianagaram-Rajam-Palakonda road as a State highway. The government also plans to develop the Nellimarla-Ranasthalam route as a State highway to ensure better and alternate connectivity between Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. At present, both routes are being maintained by the Roads and Buildings Department. A few months ago, Rajam MLA Kondru Muralimohan submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, explaining the need for the State highway between Vizianagaram and Palakonda via Rajam as the existing R&B road has become congested. It takes almost two hours to travel hardly 50 km between Vizianagaram and Rajam. The Chief Minister鈥檚 Office accepted the proposal and directed Vizianagaram district Collector B.R. Ambedkar to prepare a DPR for the road project. The government is likely to select a private company for maintenance of the road. Mr. Muralimohan thanked the Chief Minister for fulfilling the promise made in the run-up to the general elections in 2024.
