10 metro-linked bus terminus planned

When the phase-2 metro stations open, passengers walking out of Anna Nagar West or Adyar metro are expected to have the option to grab a bite, relax, and then board an MTC bus parked a stone?s throw away in a terminus. This initiative is part of Chennai Metro Rail's (CMRL) plan to modernise at least 10 MTC bus terminuses cum depots in the city and the suburbs. It has been revealed that some of these MTC facilities will be situated near the upcoming phase-2 metro stations. The terminuses slated for modernisation include those in Anna Nagar West, KK Nagar, Mandaveli, Adyar, Villivakkam, Thiruvottiyur, Poonamallee, Kilkattalai, Vadapalani, and likely in Aynavaram.

Recently, the agency issued invitations for bids to select consultants who will be responsible for preparing a detailed project report for the modernisation of the bus depot cum terminus at Anna Nagar West and KK Nagar. The plan to commercially develop MTC bus stands is a crucial component of the multimodal integration plan, aiming to integrate bus facilities with phase-2 metro stations.

The redevelopment of these terminuses is anticipated to encourage more commuters to utilise both MTC and metro stations, consequently generating non-ticketing revenue for both MTC and CMRL.
