Telangana gets Rs 1,813 crore for Railways

Telangana has been allocated Rs 1,813 crore as against Rs 1,729 crore last year, for
Railways, thus getting a rise of 5 per cent in the funds allocated. The South Central
Railway (SCR) has been sanctioned Rs 5,752 crore for 2018-19. The budgetary grant
is Rs 1,757 crore for new lines, while the sum allocated for passenger amenities is Rs
120 crore. The Southern Railway plans to have passenger safety, amenities and
completion of ongoing projects, as their target.
The railway electrification for a total route length of 1,261 km has been sanctioned.
With this, the SCR plans to electrify the entire stretch except Bidar-Gulbarga. Three
new railway line surveys have been sanctioned in Telagnana from Patancheru-
Sangareddy-Jogipet- Medak, Nizamabad-Nirmal- Adilabad and Manakondur,
Huzurabad and Elkaturthi. Similarly, 221 km of by-pass line construction in
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will be taken up.
For MMTS Phase-II Telangana for Ghatkesar-Yadadri Extension, SCR has reportedly
requested the Andhra Pradesh Government for its share of Rs 350 crore. The projects
are expected to be completed before December 2018. As per reports, the SCR has also
requested the state government to pool in its share of funds for the proposed new line
from Vijayawada-Guntur via Amaravati. A token grant of Rs 10 crore has been
allocated for this line.
